There I was stuck on a stinking hot school bus in June half filled with grade 2’s snoozing after a full day at the Toronto Zoo and the others so restless they made me feel like I was still at the zoo. I was volunteering. My phone rings and it’s my client who I developed these three resources for. I proposed the concept, sourced and managed the creative execution, wrote the nutrition copy, conducted the focus tests with kids and managed the provincial review process. “You should have come to the Dietitians of Canada conference this year” she says. “Oh, what did I miss” I asked. “Well Fuel up for Fun just won us (Nutrition Resource Centre) a national award for excellence in nutrition education.” I practically fell off my padded orange school bus seat. Being recognized by my peers was an honour. And yes we survived the ride home.
