Kids Cook! Get your kids involved in the kitchen by having them help out with this recipe. Here’s what they can do!* Measure ingredients. Teach them how to portion spaghetti. Have them practice their spatula skills by scooping out the tomato paste. Have them wash mushrooms and slice with a kid-friendly knife.

Dietitian's tip: Pasta sauce can be a great way to add more vegetables to your kid's diet, if they will eat them that way! Chunks of vegetables in pasta sauce never flew for my kids so I did what any resourceful mom does and blended them up then added them to the sauce. Mushrooms work particularly great. I would not hide the fact that there were vegetables in the sauce but acknowledge that they were not fond, right now, of pieces of vegetables in their sauce and that was OK by me.
  • 2 cups (500 mL) pan-fried (or frozen) mixed diced vegetables
  • 2 cans (19 oz/540 mL EACH) Italian-style tomatoes
  • 1 can (5 -1/2 oz/156 mL) tomato paste
  • 2 cups (500 mL) Big Batch Beef
  1. Combine ingredients in saucepan with Big Batch Beef; heat to simmer, breaking up tomatoes with back of spoon.
  2. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 to 20 minutes.
Time-saving tip:
Did you know cooked pasta keeps for 3-5 days in the fridge. Yes, cooking pasta is quick but you know what is quicker? Grabbing cooked pasta out of the fridge! Sunday night consider cooking up a few cups of pasta to have on hand for lunches or side dishes.
