For a long while my son only wanted a chicken wrap with barbeque sauce and a Granny Smith apple for lunch. He liked it and he could eat it fast. Check, double check. That’s all that mattered. Going out to play was on his mind, not eating a variety of foods from each food group ha! And there must be comfort knowing amidst the hectic school day that lunch is guaranteed to hit the spot. I get it.
So what to do? Trust in time they’ll get bored and will try new things but in the meantime you can:
My picky son is now 6’2” and still plays AAA baseball. We weathered his grade 3 chicken and barbeque sauce wrap with apple food jag without tears and in all likelihood your child will too. If you’re concerned about your child’s growth or eating habits, talk to your family doctor about seeing a registered dietitian.
What lunch has your child been fixated on? Did you wean them off of it or did they do it themselves? What worked?
